I am having difficulty with the following task:
I have several shapefiles with the same coordinate system (GCS_WGS_1984 with angular unit Degrees) and same geographic extent but very different features. I would like to convert each one of these to a raster with cell sizes of 2.5 km by 2.5 km such that all these raster layers perfectly overlap. My main issue is that when I try to convert a shapefile to raster, I only have the choice of specifying the cell size in degrees rather than kms. What sort of change in projection must I do to be able to specify my desired cell sizes in km? In addition, how do I make sure that the resulting rasters will overlap (I then want to import them in matlab for modeling therein).
