Model Builder Att Field Problem

$

I am trying to simplify a polygon at the end of my model and then buffer it, but when I connect the buffer tool for the final piece of the model no attributes to dissolve show up. I have does some checking and it all points to the simplify polygon right before the buffer that seems to not transfer the attributes from the polygon class prior to it. I have checked the polygon class by inserting the as the input features for the buffer tool and all the fields appear, but once I simplify that class there are none (only in model builder, when run natively in ArcMap the fields do transfer). Please help....I cannot skip this step because my polygons are a mess and this is the finalizing of my model. (and I do not want to smooth the polygon either). Thank you!

Clipping from feature

I have not been able to figure out how to extract the cyan lines from the red lines. The cyan is the All_Roads feature and the red lines are public roads. I need to extract the cyan ones to create a private road feature. Is there a way? Also the red lines don't exactly match up from the cyan lines.

Windows power options for long geoprocessing?

$

Would someone please point me to a basic overview of best practices for setting Windows (64-bit) power options for running long ArcGIS model builder processes? I have some that take hours or even days and I fear Windows sleep and hibernate modes will interfere. On my laptop, I've been using the "Presentation Mode" but I also just setup a desktop to run processes as well and want to be sure I don't lose hours of work to Windows control. I think I'm missing the basics.

thanks!

Generate a PRJ file with ACAD 2005 DXF

When exporting a DXF File (DXF_R2005) from ArcView 10.0's Table of Contents panel into AutoCAD LDT 2005 how can I go about generating a projection file (PRJ) so LDT harmonizes the DXF with the CAD drawing? Currently, when I assign the projection, "UTM-48N" to both drawings and I export the file to LDT, the visible DXF in the CAD workspace appears south-southwest as if its on a pre-defined origin.

Attaching Road Network Information to GPS Points

Hi ArcGIS support forums,

I hope this is the right place to post this.

I have a a large amount of GPS positions that came from snow plows, they have many attributes for what the snow plow was doing, such as the truck, the date etc. However they are missing which highway they were actually driving on. What I've been trying to do is a spatial join of the highway line feature to the GPS points, but it doesn't work well, especially where two truck routes intersect at two different highways. I was wondering if there was a script that could take the direction that the points were going in and relate it to the directions that the roads are going in.

Thanks for your help!

Help with trial version of 10.1

I have the trail version of 10.1 and I am evaluating for my company. We are trying to extract Latitude/Longitude/Altitude or the equivalent X/X/Y data of the interstate layer in the North American map. Is that possible in the trial version of 10.1? Most to the toolbox applications don't seem to be functional.

Joined Data Update

I have a table, via Excel 2007 spreadsheet, that is joined by PIN to a parcels, polygon layer. The "Join Options" parameter is set to "Show only matching records"; I wish to view only those parcels which have a matching PIN in the spreadsheet.

This issue I have encountered is that, when I update my spreadsheet, the join does not update. I have tried the following:
  • Removing the join, and re-joining
  • Removing the join table and re-adding it to the data frame
  • Clearing the cache
  • Closing and re-opening ArcMap

For some reason, the target table is still only showing the data joined from the original join.

Has anyone else experienced this behavior? Any suggestions as to how I may update my records?

Attribute heredity of many uppon another lying polygons

hey,

i've meadows as polygons (feature class grassland) and damage areas (feature class damages) drawn as polygons and lying uppon the meadows polygons (no clipping).

Now i want to add to each damage polygon the attributes from the grassland where they are laying on. But there are also often many damages polygons (captured on different days) uppon each other.

attachment:
The selected polygon is the outline of a grasslandedge.
Now i want to attach the attributes from this grasslandpolygon to the yellow and also to the blue damagepolygons which are "on this grassland". I couldn't manage to solve the problem with the many overlapping damagepolygons.

In an attempt to create line features from point features, I am experiencing error code 999999, which is not a very helpful error code. How does one properly run that script located under Data Management Tools/Features?

Thanks for any help!

polygon completely within another one check

hey,

how can I check if all captured polygons within (laying uppon another - not clipped) another polygon

attachment:
the selected polygon is the border of feature class grassland and the blue/yellow/black polygons are feature class damages.
how can I automatically check the whole map, if every damage polygon is "completely!" within a grassland polygon. (and not passing the border in fact, that data were collected via GPS MobileMapper)

Read-Only Parameter in Model Builder?

$

I have a model that results in a table being joined to a feature class, neither of which are initially present in the map document (they're both created in the model). So, in order to get the feature layer and table into the map while preserving the join, I'm using the "model parameter" option from the model builder context menu. The problem is that these parameters are then available for modification in the tool dialog, which is unnecessary in this situation and undesirable. Is there a way to hide these parameters or make them read only?

Issues Reconciling and Posting version using Python in ArcGIS Desktop 10

$

Hi,

We are running into an issue while reconciling and posting the updated version to the parent (DEFAULT) version, in a script that updates features in a feature class (W_HYDRANT), using Update Cursors.

The script uses two workspaces (.sde connection files) - one for editing the data using the Update Cursor, and the other for Reconciling and Posting the version. These wokspaces are named inWorkspace and postWorkspace respectively. The inWorkspace connection file uses the editor credentials, while the postWorkspace uses the Schema Owner credentials (DEFAULT version is protected). Both versions point to a named version "MX_UPDATES", which is a child of default.

Code:

arcpy.ReconcileVersion_management(postWorkspace, editVersion, parentVersion,
                                  "BY_ATTRIBUTE", "FAVOR_EDIT_VERSION",
                                  "LOCK_AQUIRED", "ABORT_CONFLICTS", "NO_POST")

Here is the error message I get:

Code:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "P:\workareas\dus\repo\programs\python\maximo\Update_Hydrant_from_Maximo.py", line 201, in <module>
    "LOCK_AQUIRED", "ABORT_CONFLICTS", "NO_POST")
File "C:\Program Files (x86)\ArcGIS\Desktop10.0\arcpy\arcpy\management.py", line 9271, in ReconcileVersion
    raise e
ExecuteError: ERROR 000084: Conflicts detected, aborting the reconcile.
Failed to execute (ReconcileVersion).

I tried other variations with "NO_LOCK_AQUIRED" and "NO_ABORT", and am still unable to Reconcile.

Interestingly, I am able to manually reconcile and post this version without any issues - no conflicts.

I am able to see the updates in the 'A' table.

Key Points:
  • Using ArcGIS Desktop 10, SP5
  • Windows 7, 64-bit OS
  • ArcSDE (ArcGIS Server 9.3) running on Oracle 11g
  • Each Department have their own schema owned GDBS, ours is UTIL_SDE.
  • Default version is protected, so have to use the schema owner credentials to Post to it.

Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Sendhil

Ole automation

Is it possible to perform ole automation from within a geoprocessing service? For example, create an Excel file, populate it, format it, and then save it. I have an external executable that performs some database queries and then does Excel automation to create a formatted Excel file. I have published the external exe as a geoprocessing service, and the database queries are performed. The Excel automation is not. I'm not sure how to enable this automation process within the gp service.

Buffer and %scratchfolder% - "Error 000210: Cannot create output..."

$

This is happening on Windows 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1.

I have built a model in ModelBuilder that (in summary) takes a feature set, does a whole load of spatial unions, buffers the input feature set to 2 miles and then does a final spatial join with that on another feature set. All the union results are parameters, as is the buffered shape. I have all the results outputting to %scratchfolder%\quads, %scratchfolder%\project_buffered, etc. Everything apart from the buffering runs fine. I am seeing the following when I get to the running of the buffer tool:

ERROR 000210: Cannot create output C:\Users\frank_mclean\Documents\ArcGIS\scratch\project_buffered
Failed to execute (Buffer).

1. The project_buffered shapefile actually seems to be created just fine.
2. I am running ArcMap as an administrator.
3. If I change the buffer output to be something like 'C:\Temp\project_buffered', the model runs fine. With the issue then, of source, that if I rerun the model, it basically won't, because 'C:\Temp\project_buffered' already exists.

So, my questions are:

1. What's going on? :-)
2. I'm going at all this to get a result so I can publish the model as a service. If I do a hack like point 3, above, will I be able to publish the service and not worry that whenever it runs it won't use an appropriate scratch area? By which I mean can I be assured of this, not just try it and see it works and then bet the farm? :-)

Thanks,

Frank

Check if polygons overlapping another by same attribute

hey,

is there a possibility to check, if polygons from one feature class with the same capture date (attribut) overlap each other?

attachment:
captured influence polygons (blue, black..) on different days with GPS Mobile Handheld and therefore got once uppon another laying polygons which must not overlap each other in case, they are captured on the same day = attribute date.
